I had this happen to me more than it should have. I even lost thousands of songs as I didn’t have the resources to backup my music files. Windows forces an update on me, and of course in the middle of the afternoon when I ma likely using the computer. The system shuts itself down for a reboot, and next thing you know the Windows installation fails to load. No matter what you do, there is no way you can fix the mess. You are now out of a computer for a few days while you hope you can reinstall the OS? resolved the issue before you reinstall. This is frustration that no one should have to face, but it is your fault. You agree to the Terms of Service agreement that says Microsoft can screw up as much as it wants to, and there is nothing you can do about it. It is this threat the made me move to MacOS which I have been using since. The only reason I have a Windows license is I bought a Frame Work 16″ notebook, and figured to give Windows another chance. Very expensive mistake!
So what should you do? Well, not much you can do. You are at the mercy of the compenatnacy of the developers to not brick your computer. However, you can reduce the negative impact. Get an external drive that is twice the size of your internal drive. You would backup your personal files and folders to this hard drive. Find an affordable backup software to back up your files to the external hard drive. This will not litigate the issues of Windows bringing itself, but it will give you a chance to keep your important files. If your computer has 2 drives, I will load your personal files on the drive that is not running Windows. You can then just backup that particular drive, and make things easier to backup, and reocver fi the mess should grow,
